Leah, Founder & Director of Leah Jay, reflects on the 2017 REINSW Awards for Excellence.

“I am extremely proud and humbled. On awards night I was a little overwhelmed as winners were announced. We knew we had done well but the reaction from Institute officials told us we had achieved something special.

We won three major Awards for Excellence, the most of any agency or group in a very competitive field of industry leaders. As John Cunningham, President of the Real Estate Institute, said on the night, these people represent those who are genuinely working to take the industry forward, both in terms of reputation and meeting the changing needs of clients.

Twenty of us traveled to Sydney for the event and it was smiles all round. We were ecstatic to receive both the individual and team property management awards, the first time this had been achieved by any agency in NSW. And we had two of the five individual finalists, that in itself remarkable in a hotly contested category. What is most satisfying for me is the depth of ability and dedication reflected across our teams and offices.

I want to acknowledge everyone involved, from Operations Manager Cassandra Lantry, who’s been with us since 2005 and who has grown to become a superb leader; to Senior Property Manager Nicole Childs, who overcame personal adversity to attain her success; to Systems Support Manager Lesley Rattenbury, who took a leap of faith in 2016 to take on a newly created role.

It was a wonderful win for the Hamilton team, but I also want to mention the East Maitland team, who were finalists in 2016. And I want to pay tribute to Senior Property Manager Renee Ross, a finalist again in 2017, who epitomises our will to continually better ourselves. I can’t forget the great work of our marketing team, Pippa and Claire, who put the finishing touches to the submissions and were themselves finalists in the Communications category.

It is not possible for me to adequately express my pride and gratitude to all who share the passion, sustained by our wonderful long-term people and invigorated by keen like-minded people who join us.”
